Yep ... I Believe It's True

Recently I shared these thoughts with one of my "all-grown-up-now" children. I think most parents feel the same from time to time ....

I only want the best for you, even if I don't know what the best is.  None of us really does.  We muddle on and try to do the best we can.  We are kind to others.  We don't steal.  We say 'sorry'.  We share what we have and help others however we are able.  We tell the truth and keep to ourselves those words that might hurt someone's feelings if we say them right out loud. And then if we really feel the same way after serious contemplation, we go ahead and say them anyway.  And hope for the best.  And lose some friends.  But cherish the ones who stick by us because they know our heart.  Really know our heart.  We forgive when someone asks us to.  God told us to do that.  He gets to choose -- we don't.  We keep hoping for good.  There's a lot of that in the world.  Sometimes we just have to look pretty hard to find it.  But it's there.  I have seen so much good in people and I'm so grateful that I have.  And most of all, we just show up and we keep plugging along.  Because at the end of day, we remind ourselves that courage is that little voice that says "I'll try again tomorrow."

I Am

I haven't posted in a very long time.  Life gets so busy -- days run into weeks and weeks run into months. And before you know it, it's time to apologize (one more time) for "being so busy."  There's got to be a way to solve this.  I'll certainly let you know when I discover what the solution is.  For now, I simply want to say that I am happy.  I am grateful.  I am content.  I am at peace with life.  I am loved.  I am safe.  I am honest.  I am free.  I am faithful.  I am secure.  I am surrounded by good people.  I am healthy.  I am comfortable.
I am.
And I am so busy.  I am really going to do something about this.
I am!

A Sprinkle of Africa

Is this the most darling butter dish and salt and pepper set you've ever seen?  I found this at KUDU Gifts and Decor from Africa located at 2155 East 2100 South in Salt Lake.  I love the way this set brightens my kitchen and makes me smile!  The holes are just a little too large for salt and pepper and I already have a couple sets that I use (but they're very plain and boring!) so I put organic sugar in one and flour in the other.  It's fun to sprinkle sugar on my oatmeal or cereal -- and so convenient to sprinkle flour on my counter as I roll out pie crust or sugar cookies.  The cute little ladies are wearing my favorite color (RED) and cause me to sing and even giggle while I'm using them!

There are so many really great items in the shop.  Tiffanie's mother-in-law, Kleis, owns KUDU. Lauren and Susan (Tiffanie's sisters-in-law) help run it.  Stop in to visit sometime and they'll tell you about a group of women who are alive and thriving in Africa because people like us buy their beautiful hand-made items.  I love this new addition to my kitchen!

Not Just Any Ordinary Angel

I had surgery three weeks ago to repair a really bad tendon in my arm.  My arm had to be totally immobilized for a while and for the first time in my entire life, I had to wear a big bulky cast and a sling.  Having only one working arm, I found many things to be very difficult -- I couldn't tie my shoes, or floss my teeth, or zip up my coat, or pull my hair up in a ponytail, or ... well, just use your imagination and I'm sure YOU could add a few things to this list!!!  But I quickly came to the conclusion that I wasn't about to let some silly old thing (like a cast) keep me from having fun!!  It snowed on Christmas morning so Randy and I went for a walk.  I couldn't resist -- I plopped down on my back and did what you're supposed to do in fresh snow -- I made an angel!!

I think she's pretty sweet .... even if she only has one wing!!

By the way, the cast is off and I have to wear a wrist brace for another month.  I have gained a new appreciation for many things that I've taken for granted much too often.  I'm adding things to my "gratitude" list each and every day!

Home Sweet Home

It's been almost two months since my last post.  I can't believe how time whips by like a dust storm!  We have moved into our new home and are finally settled.  We built this home knowing it would be our last.  So I was able to unpack and display items that will (hopefully) never need to be moved again.  Pictures are on the wall.  Cupboards and drawers are filled.  Closets are organized.  Doo-dah's are where I want them!!  I love this house!  I like our neighborhood.  I'm enjoying new friends.  I am peaceful and content!!  Life is good.
Come visit -- you know the number -- call me and I'll give you our new address!

A Gift From My Heart

Happy birthday to my sister Vic (aka Vickie Louise Bonner Smith) -- I have always loved you, I love you today, and I will always love you!

Spencer W. Kimball taught that “God does notice us and He watches over us.  But it is usually through another mortal that He meets our needs.”
I know that God knows us and watches over us.  He will send others to help us.  And if we listen, He will send us to others.
I'm grateful for the angels that help me in my life.
And I appreciate the opportunity to give service and bless the lives of others.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for every tender mercy.

Green Smoothie

I guess you could say I'm a creature of habit!  One of my day-starters happens to be a green smoothie, which I have almost every day.  I truly believe it helps to keep me healthy and strong.  I'm fortunate to have a Vita-Mix, one of my favorite kitchen appliances (I'd be lost without it!).  I dump in all the ingredients and blend it for a minute.  It's quick and easy, and so is the cleanup -- I just fill the empty blender up with water and a drop of dish soap, blend, rinse and we're good to go again the next day!

I have two smoothies that I like: one with fruit and one with veggies.  If I make the one with fruit, Randy will have a small glass with me, minus the superfoods (see below).  But if I make the veggie one, ohhhh, he doesn't come near me for fear I might offer him a taste, at which time he would promptly put both hands over his mouth, slowly back away from me, while muttering something that sounds like "no, no, no!!!"  Then I call him a big baby and I drink it myself.

Here are the recipes:

4 large strawberries
3/4 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 banana
1/2 apple (cored but not peeled)
10 walnut halves
2 cups fresh spinach
water to desired consistency (I use coconut water)

VEGGIE (thank you Dr. Oz):
2 cups fresh spinach
1/2 small cucumber (unpeeled)
1 stalk celery
1 piece of raw ginger, peeled (about one square inch)
1 apple (cored but not peeled)
1/2 lime (peeled)
1/2 lemon (peeled)
1/2 cup fresh parsley
water to desired consistency

In both smoothies I add these superfoods (thank you David Wolfe):
2 tsp hemp seed
2 tsp chia seed
1 tsp maca
1 Tbsp milled flaxseed
2 tsp spirulina

Be Gone Already!

Has anyone noticed those annoying blue links that are underlined and just show up in my blog posts?  If you use Blogger, they're in your posts, too!  When you drag your mouse over the underlined blue word, a little box pops up with information about that specific word.  I didn't ask for them, I don't like them, I wish they would disappear, and I'm really bugged by this constant automatic uninvited little irritation.  Ugh!
@ # $ % @ # $ %
There, I got it out.  Now I feel better.  But only a little better.  I would feel a lot better if they were eliminated from our posts all together.

P.S.  If you know how to do away with them, kindly inform me???
Please and thank you.

Congratulations Zackary!

What???  Our oldest grandson has graduated from high school and we were there to witness this incredible event!  Zackary graduated from Mission Bay High School in San Diego with honors -- Magna Cum Laude to be exact!  Now he's off to the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) to begin his college career majoring in Journalism.  We couldn't be prouder of you Zack!  Way to go!
